![]() A Small character's unarmed strike deals 1d2 points of bludgeoning damage, while a Large character's unarmed strike deals 1d4 points of bludgeoning damage. Unarmed Strike Damage: An unarmed strike from a Medium character deals 1d3 points of bludgeoning damage (plus your Strength modifier, as normal). Note that being armed counts for both offense and defense (the character can make attacks of opportunity). A monk, a character with the Improved Unarmed Strike feat, a spellcaster delivering a touch attack spell, and a creature with natural physical weapons all count as being armed (see natural attacks). “Armed” Unarmed Attacks: Sometimes a character's or creature's unarmed attack counts as an armed attack. An unarmed attack does not provoke attacks of opportunity from other foes, nor does it provoke an attack of opportunity from an unarmed foe.Īn unarmed character can't take attacks of opportunity (but see “Armed” Unarmed Attacks, below). The attack of opportunity comes before your attack. Striking for damage with punches, kicks, and head butts is much like attacking with a melee weapon, except for the following:Īttacks of Opportunity: Attacking unarmed provokes an attack of opportunity from the character you attack, provided she is armed. If I don't have the Improved Unarmed Strike feat in comparison to someone who does have the feat, are there limitations besides what I've listed above? (If so, what limitations are there?)įor relevant RAW, here's the Monk's Unarmed Strike feature, the Improved Unarmed Strike Feat, and the Unarmed Strike rules: Is the Improved Unarmed Strike feat supposed to be at all different from the Monk's Improved Unarmed Strike class feature? (And if so, what are the differences? What can I do with one that I cannot do with the other?) However, there are a few discrepancies I noticed for the actual Improved Unarmed Strike feat in comparison to the Monk's Improved Unarmed Strike class feature. They also take no -4 penalty for dealing lethal/non-lethal damage. When a character takes the Improved Unarmed Strike feat, they threaten all squares they can make attacks with their Unarmed Strike when using their Unarmed Strike attack mode. A character who does not have Improved Unarmed Strike deals non-lethal damage (unless they have a gauntlet/spiked gauntlet equipped), and takes a -4 penalty to deal lethal (or non-lethal with a gauntlet/spiked gauntlet equipped). ![]() What I have come to understand is that Unarmed Strikes can be made as attacks (functioning as both a Natural Weapon and Manufactured Weapon) from a character's Iterative Attack score. I am confused as to how Unarmed Strikes work mechanically on a few things (Improved Version included), and while I am sure it might have already been answered, I haven't found official ones yet. ![]()
